LOMAs
LOMA stands for Letter of Map Amendment. This is an official amendment presented in letter form to an effective National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) map. This creates a property's location in relation to the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). They are typically issued because a property was mapped inadvertently as being a floodplain when in fact it is on high ground naturally formed above the base flood elevation. This becomes public record that the community must maintain because it intends to officially amend the effective NFIP map for the property. This should be noted in the master flood map for the community and filed by a panel number to be reached at an accessible location.
